Trent Rockets face nervous wait for Hundred final spot after Southern Brave defeat
By Charlie Bradshaw — 10 August 2026 — 4 min read
The Trent Rockets men’s team faces an anxious wait to determine if they will automatically qualify for The Hundred final following a six-wicket loss to Southern Brave. The Rockets were unable to defend their total of 158-7, as an unbeaten half-century from Tristan Stubbs helped the already-eliminated Brave secure a victory with three balls remaining.
The Rockets currently hold a four-point lead over Sunrisers Leeds. If the Sunrisers defeat Manchester Super Giants at Old Trafford on Tuesday, they could surpass the Rockets for the top spot. Should both teams finish with 24 points, net run-rate will be the deciding factor, with the Sunrisers (1.094) currently having a better rate than the Rockets (0.740).

Men’s Match Details
Tristan Stubbs and Marcus Stoinis were key in the Brave’s chase, forming a 70-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Stoinis scored 46 runs off 25 balls, including four fours and three sixes, before being caught. With eight runs needed off the final five balls, Stubbs and Nikhil Chaudhary guided the Brave to victory. Stubbs finished unbeaten with 52 runs from 28 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 185.71, sealing the win with a six over square leg.
Earlier in the match, the Rockets’ top order contributed to what appeared to be a competitive total. Mitchell Santner was the top scorer with an unbeaten 35 runs off 23 balls. He shared an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 66 runs with Lewis Gregory, who scored 28 not out off 18 balls. The wickets were distributed among five bowlers for the Brave, with skipper Chris Jordan dismissing Finn Allen for 23 with a yorker. It was a challenging day for Manny Lumsden, a 17-year-old bowler, whose first set conceded 19 runs.
Women’s Team Secures Final Berth
In contrast to the men’s team, the Trent Rockets Women have secured their place in The Hundred final. This was achieved after their seventh consecutive victory against Southern Brave. England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt played a crucial role, scoring 32 runs off 19 balls while batting lower down the order. Her performance helped the team recover from an early score of 10-3, which was the lowest powerplay score in the competition’s history.

Despite needing only 27 runs to guarantee their spot in the final, the outcome of the match remained uncertain. Sciver-Brunt entered the game at number seven with the score at 66-5 and 31 deliveries remaining. Her experience helped prevent further issues, though she was run out attempting a second run that would have clinched the victory. The Rockets ultimately won with two balls to spare.
The Southern Brave’s total of 117-5 was built around contributions from their top order, with Maia Bouchier scoring 38, Lizelle Lee 31, and Laura Woolvaardt 24. The Brave women’s team will have another opportunity to reach the final, as they had already secured a spot in the eliminator scheduled for Friday at The Kia Oval. Their opponent will be determined on Tuesday, either third-placed SunRisers Leeds or fourth-placed Manchester Super Giants, who will play each other in their final group match.
Sciver-Brunt commented on the win, stating her satisfaction with the result and noting that the wicket was somewhat slow, and the opposition bowled well in the initial phase. Regarding her batting position, she explained it was a tactical decision and also related to injury management. She added that the team has many players in form and high on confidence, and they have balanced their side effectively in preparation for Sunday’s final.
Upcoming Matches
Tuesday will feature significant matches at Old Trafford. The women’s match, scheduled for 15:00 BST, will see the winner secure a spot in the eliminator against Southern Brave. A tie or no result in this game would allow the Super Giants to advance. The men’s match, starting at 18:30, will feature the Sunrisers aiming for automatic qualification for the final by defeating the Super Giants with a sufficient margin to secure top spot via net run-rate. The Super Giants also need a victory to maintain their own chances of reaching the eliminator.
All matches of The Hundred will be broadcast through to the finals on Sunday, August 16.
