Tottenham reach agreement with Cody Gakpo as transfer window activity continues

Tottenham’s pursuit of Gakpo and other targets
Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly reached an initial agreement on personal terms with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. This development marks a significant step towards a potential move for the Netherlands international to north London. According to reports, all parties involved are increasingly confident that a permanent transfer can be finalised, with Tottenham now in direct discussions with Liverpool.
Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham’s manager, views Gakpo as a key target, appreciating his versatility across multiple attacking positions. Gakpo’s contract with Liverpool extends until the summer of 2030, and the club is not under financial pressure to sell. However, Liverpool might sanction his exit if an official bid matching their valuation is received. The departure of Gakpo could prompt Liverpool to seek a replacement, with Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain being a name linked with Anfield.

Tottenham’s transfer activity also includes being close to signing Manchester City winger Savinho. Additionally, Spurs have joined Manchester United and Arsenal in expressing interest in Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen. In other transfer news, Cristian Romero, Tottenham captain, has completed his transfer to Atletico Madrid.
Ongoing transfer sagas and club movements
Arsenal is reportedly considering midfielder Jack Hinshelwood from Brighton while continuing discussions with Bayer Leverkusen regarding England international Jarell Quansah. Quansah, formerly of Liverpool, is seen as a player who could cover both centre-back and right-back positions, which would be beneficial following an injury to William Saliba.
Barcelona is preparing a third bid for Rodri, though this offer is still expected to fall short of Manchester City’s valuation. This deal could influence the timing of any move for Enzo Fernandez, with his former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reportedly keen on signing the midfielder. Chelsea had set a deadline for bids for Fernandez, which passed without Manchester City submitting an offer, leading Chelsea to anticipate Fernandez will remain with the club for the upcoming season. Fernandez was met with a mixed reception from Chelsea fans during a pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle United is nearing an agreement with Benfica for the transfer of right-back Amar Dedic. Dedic, who previously worked with new Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg, is expected to arrive before the start of the Premier League season. He could potentially be involved in Sunday’s opener against Liverpool, as Tino Livramento is currently sidelined due to injury.
Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed the signing of Ferran Torres from Barcelona, the player who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final. PSG is also pursuing Bradley Barcola, though they are reportedly unwilling to lower their asking price for the winger. Michael Carrick has stated that Manchester United still needs to strengthen its squad this summer, despite having already made several signings.
Celtic midfielder Arne Engels is set to complete a move to West Ham, as confirmed by manager Martin O’Neill. Celtic had previously rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for the Belgium international during the winter transfer window. Engels was reportedly eager for a move to English football, and O’Neill expressed disappointment at his departure.
Crystal Palace has completed the signing of right-sided player Anan Khalaili on a five-year contract.
